Injury lawyer marketing: what the advertising really costs
Injury firms pay more per click than any other practice area in US legal search — up to $151.31, measured 3 August 2026. That price is set by an auction between firms, so it is not our estimate of what a matter is worth. It is theirs.

How much do personal injury lawyers spend on advertising?
We cannot tell you what any firm spends. We can tell you exactly what the auction charges, which is the part that is measurable.
| City | Injury searches/mo | Cost per click | 100 clicks costs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Philadelphia | 6,600 | $151.31 | $15,131 |
| San Diego | 6,600 | $150.75 | $15,075 |
| Austin | 5,400 | $146.91 | $14,691 |
| Denver | 6,600 | $123.30 | $12,330 |
| Houston | 22,200 | $114.87 | $11,487 |
Measured 3 August 2026 across twenty US cities.
A firm taking a modest share of the Houston market — say a thousand clicks a month against 22,200 searches — is spending roughly $114,870 a month on clicks alone, before anything is written, built or answered.
That is the number to hold in mind for the rest of this page. Not because we recommend it, but because it is what the practice area costs when bought by the click.
Why do injury lawyers advertise so much?
Because the auction price tells you what the firms bidding believe a matter is worth, and they are the ones who know.
Nobody pays $151.31 for a visit unless the expected value of that visit justifies it. Work backwards: if only one visitor in fifty becomes an instruction, the firm has spent about $7,566 to acquire one — and it is still bidding. Firms do not do that repeatedly by accident.
We are not going to state what an injury matter is worth, because we hold no data on settlements or fees and inventing one would be the easiest number on this page to disprove. The click price is the honest proxy, and it is a strong one precisely because it is set by the people with the information.
The second reason is structural: injury work is non-recurring. A conveyancing firm has repeat clients; an injury firm largely does not. Every matter must be won again, which makes acquisition a permanent cost rather than a launch cost.
What does that mean for a firm that cannot outspend the market?
That the auction is the wrong fight, and the organic result sits above it.
The paid results and the organic results appear on the same page. One is priced per click and stops the day the card is declined. The other is priced by the work and keeps producing. In the most expensive practice area in legal search, that difference is worth more than it is anywhere else — the gap between paying $151.31 a visit and paying nothing per visit is the whole argument.
The honest trade: organic produces nothing measurable in month one, and it cannot be judged fairly before month six. A firm that needs matters this quarter should be buying clicks, and we would say so.
Our Practice Sprint is $1,450 and the build tier is $2,900, both fixed and published, with no minimum term.
Which injury searches are actually worth building for?
Not "personal injury". That is a category, not a search.
Injury splits into markets that compete separately and price differently:
- Motor and road traffic — the largest volume, the most contested
- Workplace and industrial — narrower, often less contested
- Medical negligence — long decisions, high value, different language entirely
- Public liability — the smallest and frequently the least contested
A firm with one page covering all four is competing on the broadest and most expensive term while ignoring the three where it could actually rank. The narrower search is where somebody ready to instruct actually is, and it is cheaper to win in every sense.
How do you charge, and why not per matter?
Fixed fees by scope and time. Never per inquiry, never per matter.
Personal injury sits inside prescribed legal business, where referral fees are restricted, and the restriction binds the firm paying as well as the party being paid. In the United States, lawyer advertising also runs through ABA Model Rule 7.2(b), adopted differently state by state.
A supplier proposing to sell injury inquiries at a price each is proposing something the firm should not buy, whatever it costs. Most suppliers pitching this practice area do not know that. Asking early is the cheapest due diligence available.
What do other suppliers charge?
Twelve of forty will tell you before a call.
| Across 40 suppliers, 3 August 2026 | Count | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Published any price | 12 / 40 | 30% |
| Published only a "from" range | 5 / 40 | 13% |
| Claimed a guarantee | 8 / 40 | 20% |
| No minimum term | 1 / 40 | 3% |
15 of the 62 questions buyers ask on these searches are price questions. In the practice area with the highest acquisition costs in legal search, 70% of suppliers decline to state theirs up front.

Where should I read next?
If the question is planning rather than channels, lawyer marketing plan and marketing plan for law firm cover how to sequence the work.
By channel: internet marketing for law firm covers the online set, and social media marketing law firm covers a channel that behaves very differently in injury work than elsewhere.
For contrast, immigration lawyer marketing covers a practice area with far cheaper clicks and a much longer decision, which changes almost every recommendation on this page.
Frequently asked questions
How much do personal injury lawyers spend on advertising?
We hold no data on individual firms' budgets, only on what the auction charges. Clicks run to $151.31 in Philadelphia and $114.87 in Houston, measured 3 August 2026, so a thousand Houston clicks a month is roughly $114,870 before anything else is paid for.
Why do injury lawyers advertise so much?
Because the auction price reflects what the bidding firms believe a matter is worth, and injury work is non-recurring, so every matter has to be won again. We do not publish a case value because we hold no settlement data; the click price is the honest proxy.
Why are injury clicks the most expensive in legal search?
Because every firm bids for the same searches and the expected value justifies it for them. At $151.31 a click, one instruction from fifty visits costs about $7,566 to acquire, and firms continue bidding at that level.
Can a smaller firm compete with those budgets?
Not in the auction. The organic results appear on the same page and are priced by the work rather than by the click, which matters more in this practice area than any other. The trade is that nothing is measurable in month one and it cannot be judged before month six.
Should an injury firm have one page or several?
Several. Motor, workplace, medical negligence and public liability compete separately and price differently. One page covering all four competes on the broadest and most expensive term while ignoring three where the firm could actually rank.
Can we buy injury inquiries at a price each?
Personal injury sits inside prescribed legal business, where referral fees are restricted, and the restriction binds the firm paying as well as the party paid. US lawyer advertising also runs through ABA Model Rule 7.2(b) state by state. Ask any supplier how they charge first.
