Family law firm marketing across six matter types
Family law is not one practice. It is 6 matter types on one menu, differing in length, in who arrives and in how much demand exists. A firm builds for the mix it wants. In Dallas, family and divorce terms ran at 6,280 searches a month at $37.59 a click on 3 August 2026.

Why is family law six practices sharing one menu?
Because the matters have almost nothing in common except the department they sit in.
They differ on three axes that decide how a practice is built. How long the matter runs, which sets how many of them a fee earner can hold at once. How much of it is contested, which sets what the work costs to deliver. And how the client arrives, which is the only one of the three that marketing can do anything about. A firm advertising "family law" is buying attention across all six and steering none of it, which is how practices end up full of the matter type they least wanted.
| Matter type | Who arrives | What the page has to settle before they call |
|---|---|---|
| Divorce | Somebody who has largely decided already | What the process is, and how the billing works |
| Children's arrangements | A parent, often mid-dispute | What can be agreed without a hearing |
| Property and finances | Somebody with a specific asset problem | Whether the firm handles that kind of asset |
| Modification and enforcement | A former client of another firm, frequently unhappy | Whether this firm takes over somebody else's order |
| Agreements before or during a marriage | Two people with a date in the calendar | How long it takes, and how both sides are handled |
| Adoption | Somebody with a long horizon and no deadline | What the sequence looks like end to end |
Two of those rows are worth more attention than they usually get. Modification and enforcement brings a reader who has already paid a lawyer once and is dissatisfied, which is the most persuadable audience in the practice area and the one almost no firm writes for. Agreements made before a marriage are the only family matter with a genuine deadline attached, and a page that says how long the process takes is doing something the rest of the site cannot.
Which matters should the firm actually build for?
The ones its own numbers say it wants more of, which is not a question search data can answer.
The admission, and it is the central one on this page: we do not know which family matters pay. We hold no data on how long a matter of any type runs, what share of the billed time is written off, or what any of them realizes. That lives in the firm's practice-management system and nowhere in our dataset. Anybody offering to tell a firm which matter types are profitable from search figures is selling something they cannot deliver, and we would be doing the same if we tried.
What that leaves is a sequence rather than a shortcut. The firm decides the mix from its own numbers first. The site is then built to that decision, with the pages weighted toward the matters the firm wants and the ones it does not want deliberately left thin. A practice that wants fewer contested children's matters should not have its best page on children's matters, and that is a decision no supplier will make for it.
What can our figures tell you about the mix, and what can they not?
They can price the attention in a city. They cannot split it by matter type.
| City | Family and divorce searches/mo | Cost per click |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas | 6,280 | $37.59 |
| San Diego | 5,200 | $45.95 |
| Tampa | 5,800 | $28.57 |
| Austin | 4,190 | $34.62 |
Measured 3 August 2026 across 20 US cities. A hundred San Diego clicks is $4,595 and a hundred Tampa clicks is $2,857, which is multiplication on the measured prices rather than a forecast of what either produces. San Diego costs about 1.6 times Tampa for the same category on the same day.
The limitation matters more than the figures do. The dataset counts family and divorce as a single category, and in most cities the leading term inside it is a divorce term, so the number is dominated by divorce-shaped searches. It under-represents the other five matter types and it cannot size any of them on its own. A firm that wants more adoption work, or more work on agreements made before a marriage, will not find the demand for either in this data, and we will not estimate it. That gap is the honest answer, and it is worth more than a confident number would be.
What did these four say about their own prices?
Only one of them had a figure visible the day it was read.
| Supplier | Price on the page, 3 August 2026 |
|---|---|
| magnifylab.com | Yes |
| consultwebs.com | No |
| exults.com | No |
| themodernfirm.com | No |
This is a presence check and nothing more. The figures our tooling pulled off these sites mixed genuine fees with case values, so none of them is quoted against a business by name. The full 40 breaks down as twelve with a price, five with a range, and eight with a guarantee.
Who else should be on the shortlist, and when?
In each of the three cases below the better buy is somebody other than us.
- If the mix is already settled and the firm wants volume across all six matter types, a large agency with a production line will outproduce us on page count. consultwebs.com is one of them, and it did not publish a price, so expect that conversation to begin without a number.
- If the matters the firm wants are not searched for in its city, none of this helps. The answer is referral relationships, or a change to what the practice takes, and we sell neither.
- If the firm wants paid campaigns run alongside the pages, we do not manage ad spend. magnifylab.com had a price on the page, which at least means the conversation starts with one.
What is the price, and how is it structured?
$1,450 for the Practice Sprint, $2,900 for the build. Fixed, published, no minimum term.
Nothing here is charged by the inquiry, the case or the matter. Referral fees in prescribed legal business are restricted, and that restriction binds the firm making the payment as well as the one receiving it. Lawyer advertising in the United States runs through ABA Model Rule 7.2(b) in a form each state sets for itself, and which form applies is a question for the firm and its own advisers.
Three to four months for movement, six to nine before the work can be judged fairly.

Frequently asked questions
Why treat family law as six practices rather than one?
Because the matters differ in how long they run, how contested they are, and how the client arrives. A firm advertising family law generally is buying attention across all six and steering none of it toward the work it actually wants.
Which family matter types are most worth marketing?
That depends on the firm's own numbers, not on search data. We hold nothing on how long any matter type runs, what gets written off, or what any of them realizes, and we will not guess at it.
Which matter type is most under-served online?
Modification and enforcement. That reader has already paid one lawyer and is dissatisfied, which makes them the most persuadable audience in the practice area, and almost no firm writes a page for them.
Do your figures show demand for each matter type?
No. The dataset counts family and divorce as one category and the leading term in most cities is a divorce term, so it is dominated by divorce-shaped searches and cannot size adoption, agreements before a marriage, or the rest.
What does family law traffic cost?
Dallas ran at 6,280 searches a month at $37.59 a click and San Diego at 5,200 and $45.95, both measured 3 August 2026. A hundred San Diego clicks is $4,595, which is arithmetic on the measured price.
Which of the suppliers on this page publish a price?
magnifylab.com had a price on the page on 3 August 2026; consultwebs.com, exults.com and themodernfirm.com did not. Across all 40 suppliers read that day, twelve published a price and five showed only a range.
What do you charge, and can you bill per matter?
$1,450 for the Practice Sprint and $2,900 for the build, fixed and published, with no minimum term. Never per inquiry, per case or per matter, because referral fees are restricted in prescribed legal business and bind the paying firm too.
