Marketing for family law attorneys: chosen as a person

A family law attorney is chosen as a person, not as a firm, because the client has to tell one human being the worst facts of their life. In Nashville, 1,860 people a month search family and divorce terms at $40.45 a click, measured 3 August 2026.

Why does the attorney get chosen rather than the firm?

Because the reader is deciding who they are willing to say it to.

In most practice areas the client is buying a competence and does not much mind whose hands it arrives in. A person deciding whether to leave a marriage is choosing somebody they will sit opposite for months and tell things they have not told their family. The firm's reputation gets them onto the list. The individual gets the instruction.

That has a plain consequence for what gets published. A page describing how one named attorney works, what they take, what they will not take, and what the first meeting is actually like answers the question that is still open when the reader arrives.

The admission, early: none of this is ours to control. Whether an attorney may publish under their own name, and whether the firm keeps the page after they leave, are decided inside the firm before we are involved. We build the page and cannot get it approved, and an attorney whose firm will not permit one should not buy anything on the strength of this.

What is the best marketing for a family law attorney?

Publishing the specific things that let a stranger decide you are the right person, and letting the rest go.

There is no single best channel and anybody naming one is selling it. What can be said with a measurement behind it is where the attention sits: across the whole keyword set measured on 3 August 2026, 863 of 1,235 terms carry an AI Overview, and 39 of 54 of the money searches do. A page that opens with its answer gets summarized and attributed; one that opens with a firm history gets summarized without either.

For one attorney with limited hours, that narrows the work to four things:

  1. A page in your own name, with the matter types you personally take, not the firm's whole menu.
  2. A page on the part of the process you are asked about most. Whatever you explain out loud twice a week is the page.
  3. A statement of what you decline, and to whom you refer it.
  4. A route to reach you that says who answers and when, rather than a form and a hope.

That is four pages, not forty. A supplier proposing a monthly quota of articles is selling volume to somebody whose constraint is not visibility.

What should an individual attorney publish that the firm page cannot?

Three things a firm-level page structurally cannot say without becoming untrue for somebody else in the building.

The firm page saysThe attorney's page can say
The firm handles family lawThe four matter types I take, and the two I do not
Decades of combined experienceWhat I did last year, in the kinds of matters I take
We are responsiveWho answers, at what hours, and what happens when I am in a hearing
Contact us for a consultationWhat the first meeting covers, how long it runs, and what to bring

The second row is the one that does the work and the one most often left off. A firm cannot publish a specific account of one person's recent matters without either flattening it into an average or implying something about colleagues. An individual can describe their own practice precisely, and precision is the entire signal a family client is reading for.

How many matters can one attorney actually hold?

We do not know, and the number is the most important one on this page.

Family matters run for months and several run for longer, so an individual practice is capped by a number that lives in the attorney's own diary and matter records and nowhere in our data. We hold no figure for how many family matters a lawyer can carry, how long any matter type runs, or what any of them realizes. A supplier producing that number from search data has invented it.

What follows from the cap is the part that changes the brief. If an attorney can hold a fixed number of matters, more inquiries are not the objective — better-matched inquiries are. The pages that pay are the ones that turn the wrong instruction away before it consumes a first meeting: the declined matter types, the geography, the way the billing works, the kind of case the attorney is not the right person for. Every one of those reduces the raw inquiry count and improves what arrives, which is an uncomfortable thing for a supplier to write, because the number that falls is the number most reporting is built on.

What does the demand look like where you practice?

Wide, and the two ends of it are not the same business.

CityFamily and divorce searches/moCost per click
Columbus4,000$21.88
Atlanta3,900$36.60
Portland2,790$25.06
Nashville1,860$40.45

Measured 3 August 2026 across 20 US cities. The dataset counts family and divorce as one category, so both are inside every figure above. Columbus and Atlanta carry almost the same volume at prices that differ by two thirds: a hundred Atlanta clicks is $3,660 and a hundred Columbus clicks is $2,188, which is multiplication on the two measured prices rather than a forecast of what either produces.

For an individual the click price is a reading of the competition rather than a bill. A city where a family click costs $40.45 is one where firms have decided this work is worth paying that to reach, and one attorney is not going to outspend them.

What does it cost, and how do you charge?

$1,450 for the Practice Sprint, $2,900 for the build. Fixed, published, no minimum term.

Of the 40 legal-marketing suppliers we read in full on 3 August 2026, twelve published a price at all, five showed a range instead of a figure, eight claimed a guarantee, and one offered work with no minimum term. We decline the guarantee, because nobody controls Google's ranking.

Nothing here is charged by the inquiry, the case or the matter. Referral fees are restricted in prescribed legal business, and the restriction binds the firm making the payment as well as the party receiving it. Lawyer advertising in the United States runs through ABA Model Rule 7.2(b), adopted differently by each state, and which form binds a particular attorney is a question for that attorney and their own advisers.

Three to four months for movement, six to nine before the work can be judged fairly. If matters are needed this quarter, that is paid search, and we do not manage ad spend.

Frequently asked questions

Why do family clients choose an attorney rather than a firm?

Because they have to tell one person the worst facts of their life, and they are deciding who they are willing to say it to. The firm's reputation gets an attorney onto the list; the individual page gets the instruction.

How many pages does one family law attorney need?

Four: a page in their own name with the matter types they take, a page on the part of the process they are asked about most, a statement of what they decline and where they refer it, and a contact route saying who answers and when.

Should the goal be more inquiries?

No, if the attorney is capacity-limited. Family matters run for months, so an individual can hold only so many, and the pages that pay are the ones that turn the wrong instruction away before it consumes a first meeting.

Do you know how many matters an attorney can carry?

No. That figure lives in the attorney's own diary and matter records and nowhere in our data, along with how long any matter type runs and what it realizes.

What does family law traffic cost?

Columbus ran at 4,000 searches a month at $21.88 a click and Atlanta at 3,900 and $36.60, both measured 3 August 2026 and both covering family and divorce together. A hundred Atlanta clicks is $3,660, which is arithmetic on the measured price.

Can you get my personal page approved by the firm?

No. Whether an attorney may publish under their own name, and who keeps the page afterwards, are decided inside the firm before we are involved.

What do you charge, and can you bill per matter?

$1,450 for the Practice Sprint and $2,900 for the build, fixed and published, with no minimum term. Never per inquiry, per case or per matter, because referral fees are restricted in prescribed legal business and the restriction binds the paying firm too.
