Houston law firm SEO beyond personal injury
Personal injury is 22,200 of Houston's 48,790 monthly legal searches and $114.87 a click, measured 3 August 2026. A firm outside that practice area is competing in a market priced by somebody else's auction, and should build for the terms injury money never reaches.
Last updated: 5 August 2026
How much of Houston's legal search is one practice area?
Just under half the searches, and just over three quarters of what the city's clicks would cost to buy.
Across the eight practice areas we measured in Houston on 3 August 2026, personal injury accounts for 22,200 of 48,790 monthly legal searches — 46% of the volume by our own arithmetic — at the highest click price of the eight.
Arithmetic, not a forecast: buying every Houston injury click for one month at the listed $114.87 would cost $2,550,114. The other seven practice areas together come to $771,675.60. Injury is 77% of what this city's legal search would cost to buy, from 46% of the volume.
That concentration is the fact a Houston firm outside injury has to plan around. It does not make the other seven areas small. It makes them invisible to almost every supplier working in this city, because the money is elsewhere.
What do the other seven practice areas look like?
Two of them lead the entire twenty-city dataset, and nobody writes for either.
| Practice area | Searches/mo | Cost per click | Cost to buy one month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal injury | 22,200 | $114.87 | $2,550,114.00 |
| Family and divorce | 7,300 | $32.87 | $239,951.00 |
| Immigration | 5,400 | $22.37 | $120,798.00 |
| Criminal defense | 4,400 | $59.34 | $261,096.00 |
| Employment | 3,600 | $8.79 | $31,644.00 |
| Probate and estates | 2,900 | $25.74 | $74,646.00 |
| Real estate | 2,400 | $10.88 | $26,112.00 |
| Business | 590 | $29.54 | $17,428.60 |
Volumes and click prices measured 3 August 2026, Google Ads monthly volume and cost-per-click across twenty US cities. The right-hand column is our multiplication of the two beside it, not a figure from the dataset and not a forecast of anybody's spend. The dataset treats family and divorce as a single category, so that row is both.
Two rows deserve reading twice. Houston's 5,400 immigration searches a month are the largest of the twenty US cities we measured, at $22.37. And Houston's 3,600 employment searches are third largest in the dataset at the third cheapest price in it, $8.79. By the same arithmetic as the table, the entire month of Houston employment search costs $31,644 to buy — less than 276 injury clicks.
Why does the dominant practice area set the price for everyone else?
Because generic city phrasing and the supplier playbook are both built around it.
A firm using citywide language on its pages — Houston attorneys, Houston law firm, the head terms with nothing narrowing them — is standing next to advertisers who have decided a click is worth $114.87. It does not matter that the firm does no injury work. The auction and the competitive set are the same one.
The second effect is quieter and costs more. A supplier whose Houston experience is injury brings an injury method: high page counts, aggressive link acquisition, a budget shaped by a market where a single matter justifies a very large number. Run that method at $8.79 a click and the fee is out of proportion to the prize before anything is built.
We are subject to the same problem from the other side. Our price is $2,900 whether the market is Houston injury or Houston real estate, and a firm at the cheap end of that table should be asking us to scope down rather than paying the same fee for a smaller market. We will scope down. What we will not do is describe a market as larger than the figures say to justify the original number.
Does search work for a Houston firm outside personal injury?
Better than it works inside it, for the same money.
The searches nobody bids on are the ones a firm can reach by having written the answer. Nothing is being auctioned on how long a probate takes in Harris County, what a first meeting involves, or what happens after an initial filing. Those pages cost the same to write in any practice area, and in seven of Houston's eight they are competing against very little.
The head terms are the opposite. We cannot promise a ranking for personal injury attorney houston and neither can anyone else — 8 of the 40 legal-marketing suppliers we read on 3 August 2026 claimed a guarantee, and none of them controls Google's ranking either. That term sits in the largest injury market in the dataset. A firm competing there needs a permanent line item and a supplier who operates at that scale, and that supplier is not us.
Across the whole keyword set measured for this program, 863 of 1,235 terms carry an AI Overview, and 39 of 54 money terms do. A page that buries its answer past the first forty words gets summarized without attribution and the click never happens.
What should a firm outside injury do differently?
Five things, and the first one is the whole argument.
- Never phrase a page as the city plus the word attorney. Name the practice area and the thing the client is worried about. The generic phrasing enters the expensive auction for no benefit.
- Write the questions with no bidders. They carry no auction in any practice area, which is why they are the cheapest ground in an expensive city.
- Refuse the injury page count. A proposal built on volume is a proposal built for a $114.87 market. Two or three practice areas covered properly beats eight covered thinly, and eight near-identical pages is the doorway pattern — Google removed roughly 80% of doorway pages in measured 2024 core-update cases.
- Ask a supplier what they would do at $8.79 a click. The answer separates a method from a template.
- Put a named fee earner on the work. In an area with 590 monthly searches, the firm's own name and its people are a larger share of the reachable market than any head term.
Which suppliers should a Houston firm compare?
Four we read in full, and the only thing we recorded about them.
| Supplier | Published a price, 3 Aug 2026 |
|---|---|
| onthemap.com | yes |
| seoprofy.com | yes |
| exults.com | no |
| nomosmarketing.com | no |
Of 40 legal-marketing suppliers we read in full on 3 August 2026, twelve published a price at all, five showed only a "from" range, eight claimed a guarantee of some kind, and one offered work with no minimum term. We recorded whether a figure was visible on the page and nothing more — not what the figure was, not what any of them sells, and not how well. Our tooling picked up case values alongside genuine fees, and a wrong number against a named business is not a risk worth taking.
Where one of them is the better answer: a Houston injury firm competing for the terms above is buying capacity, sustained link work and a media budget, over years. That is a different business from ours. We sell a build that finishes, and an agency staffing an account continuously will serve that firm better than a fixed scope can. If injury is the practice area and the head terms are the target, do not buy a fixed-scope build from us and expect it to compete.
What does this cost, and why never per inquiry?
$1,450 for the Practice Sprint, $2,900 for the build. Fixed, published, no minimum term.
Never per inquiry, per matter or per client. We charge for the work, by scope and time. Referral fees are restricted in prescribed legal business, which includes personal injury, and the restriction binds the firm paying as well as the party being paid. Lawyer advertising in the United States also runs through ABA Model Rule 7.2(b), adopted differently by state, and how it applies to a particular firm is a question for that firm and its own advisers.
Three things this will not do. It will not produce matters this quarter — that is paid search, and we do not manage ad spend. It will not help a firm whose constraint is fee-earner capacity. And it will not win the Houston injury head terms.

Frequently asked questions
How much of Houston's legal search is personal injury?
22,200 of the city's 48,790 monthly searches across eight practice areas, or 46% by our arithmetic, measured 3 August 2026. By the same arithmetic it is 77% of what the city's legal clicks would cost to buy.
Which Houston practice area is cheapest to reach?
Employment, at $8.79 a click with 3,600 searches a month. Buying the entire month costs $31,644 by our arithmetic, which is less than 276 injury clicks at $114.87.
Is Houston a big immigration market?
It is the largest of the twenty US cities we measured, at 5,400 searches a month and $22.37 a click on 3 August 2026, ahead of Dallas and Chicago at 4,400 each.
Can you get a Houston firm to rank for personal injury attorney Houston?
No. That is the largest injury market in the dataset and nobody controls Google's ranking, though 8 of the 40 suppliers we read on 3 August 2026 claimed a guarantee anyway.
Why does injury pricing affect a firm that does no injury work?
Because generic city phrasing enters the same auction, and because a supplier whose Houston experience is injury brings a method built for a market where one matter justifies a very large number.
When is another supplier the better choice here?
When injury is the practice area and the head terms are the target. That needs capacity, sustained link work and a media budget over years, which is a different business from a fixed-scope build.
What does it cost and can you charge per case?
$1,450 for the Practice Sprint and $2,900 for the build, fixed and published, with no minimum term. We never charge per inquiry, per matter or per client — we charge for the work, by scope and time.
